The press has never had more importance today compared to years prior. The press has been able to conduct investigations, post op-eds, and influence the population on a wide scale. However, in the time of misinformation and the prosecution of journalists it is important to acknowledge the power the press holds to provide the truth and to be the safeguards of democracy. From covering elections, wars, the pandemic, and many other interesting topics, the press has never mattered more. The daily gavel strives to show the importance of the press and to teach people the importance of journalism to help bring the news, truth, protect the right to free speech and what's going on to the population.
