Since the United Nations’ creation in 1945, the United Nations Security Council has been tasked with responding to events that threaten global peace. Unlike most United Nations committees, the Security Council has the authority to use sanctions, or even force to respond to conflicts worldwide. In this committee, delegates will be responding to fictional events set in a contemporary backdrop. Delegates will be asked to respond to crisis drops to resolve short term issues as they continue to debate and pass resolutions to resolve the long term issues. The topics that the committee will address will be related to rising regional tension, cultural uprising, or economic crisis. Although this committee will contain crisis elements such as crisis drops and directives, it will not feature a backroom or notes. The goal of the committee is for delegates to be able to respond quickly and effectively to developments, and to work on long term goals to resolve deeper tensions.
